THE PATCH JOURNAL

Choosing a backing for the way you use your patch

Think about the garment, surface and whether your patch needs to be removable.

Sew-on

Sew-on patches can be attached with stitching to suitable fabric. Consider the thickness and accessibility of the garment or accessory.

Iron-on

Heat-applied backing needs a heat-compatible surface. Check the garment care instructions and follow the confirmed application guidance for your patch.

Hook and loop

A hook-and-loop system makes a patch removable when the receiving surface is compatible. Confirm which side of the system you need supplied.

Adhesive or a special finish

Adhesive options vary by surface and use. Tell the team whether the patch is for temporary display, apparel or another application.
